Valentine’s Day Edition
Love is in the air! We interviewed some of our favorite Kassatex couples on their budding romances and how it has conquered the test of time. Some are newbies at the love game, some have matured their relationships like a fine wine, but above all, Valentine’s Day is a quick moment to stop and get cozy with the ones you love.
Katie Sands of @iamhonestlykate and Brian
- Kassatex: Most memorable Valentine?
- KS: Our first Valentine’s Day together last year, because it was the first time I celebrated the holiday with the person I knew was the one.
- Kassatex: Valentine’s Day Night: robe night in or fine dine out?
- KS: Robe night in! Brian is the BEST cook, so anytime he offers I always pick that way over going out!
- Kassatex: Soundtrack to your evening includes:
- KS: We are deep in a reggae vibe right now.
- Kassatex: Your first valentine to each other was:
- KS: I made B a picture of all our photos together and he surprised me with a weekend trip to Miami post NYFW. I have a feeling he is doing it again this year.
Rachel and Neil Blumenthal
- Kassatex: Most memorable Valentine?
- RB: Neil and I don’t typically give each other gifts. Instead we are religious about cards. Hallmark holidays are a good excuse to take the time to verbalize why we love each other. I’ve saved every single card we’ve given each other for every single reason for the last 17 years!
- Kassatex: Valentine’s Day Night: robe night in or fine dine out?
- RB: Any version of dining out – Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to devote uninterupted time to each other, connect and have a conversation – even if it’s just a walk to get a slice of pizza. My favorite dates are those where we walk around the city and just enjoy each other’s company.
- Kassatex: Soundtrack to your evening includes:
- RB: Neil would say Marvin Gaye and I’d probably say Dave Matthews. Neither of us can brag about our taste in music ?
- Kassatex: Your first valentine to each other was:
- RB: We spent the afternoon walking through Central Park to view The Gates installation and then Neil cooked me dinner. Neither of us cook and he hasn’t cooked for me since (this was 17 years ago) so this was monumentally thoughtful. He created a menu of all my favorite things and somehow figured out how to make them “go” together. We ate it on the floor of my galley kitchen a la Sixteen Candles. It was extremely thoughtful and romantic.

- Kassatex: Most memorable Valentine’s gift?
- JD: A vintage lucite heart from the 70’s. It has a gorgeous floating stand and makes the most wonderful reflection of the light. It sits prominently in our apt and is an everyday reminder of LOVE!
- Kassatex: Valentine’s Day Night: robe night in or fine dine out?
- JD: Both! We love a romantic dinner, but it has to be off the beaten path, such as a private chef on the terrace. Then of course we love to slip into our fav Kassatex pajamas and of course the sheets!!
- Kassatex: Soundtrack to your evening includes:
- JD: Grace Jones, Erasure, Barry White. We have a ’sexy vibe’ playlist that is on repeat.
- Kassatex: Your first valentine to each other was:
- JD: Brian sent 10 dozen roses. I swear they took over the entire apt. It was so over the top and so romantic. You can never go wrong with good old red roses.
Margaret and Geoffrey Zakarian
- Kassatex: Most memorable Valentine’s Day?
- MZ:We love celebrating Valentine’s Day with a big group of friends. The most memorable was a dinner we hosted at The Lambs Club where we set the table with vintage Playboys and served flaming Baked Alaskas for dessert!
- Kassatex: Valentine’s Day Night: robe night in or fine dine out?
- MZ: This year: In robes and PJs watching a movie with the kids. Can’t wait!
- Kassatex: Soundtrack to your evening includes:
- MZ: Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin.
- Kassatex: Your first valentine to each other was:
- MZ: Oh boy, we can’t remember! We met late spring 2002, so our first Valentines was in 2003 – 17 years ago!
