Q&A with Pepper Home Co-Founder Kelsey Brown
Kassatex: What was the inspiration behind the collection?
Kelsey Brown: We knew we wanted to create a sophisticated yet playful design so we turned to our collection of exclusive patterns for inspiration. The embroidered floral motifs, drawn from our botanical print, Georgia, offer a classic and timeless aesthetic that complement any style. Seamlessly pair each colorway with our exclusive fabrics and wallpaper for a look that will make you want to linger a little longer in the tub.
Kassatex: Why was Pepper Home created?
KB: My co-founder, Erin Banta, and I started Pepper out of frustration with the lack of options for those that love interior design but don’t have an unlimited decorating budget. We found that high-quality, well-designed, and reasonably priced decor was incredibly difficult to find.
Since launching in 2018 with pillows and table linens, we’ve expanded our product assortment to include a range of offerings, including custom curtains, wallpaper, shower curtains and more. Customers are able to choose from exclusive prints, bold colors, and polished finishes, then bring them to life with the help of complimentary design resources that make the process as easy as it is fun.
Kassatex: Can you tell us about the design process for the bath collection?
KB: We knew we wanted to create a sophisticated yet playful design so we turned to our collection of exclusive patterns for inspiration. After testing a few different styles, we landed on our botanical print, Georgia, which we designed with artist Kellie Lawler. The embroidered floral motifs, drawn from the pattern, offer a classic and timeless aesthetic that complement any style.
Kassatex: What sets this bath collection apart from others on the market?
KB: What truly sets this collection apart is the abstract embroidery detail, derived from a hand-painted floral motif that we created with artist Kellie Lawler. It offers a refreshing departure from the typical striped or simplistic patterns commonly seen in the bath market. Additionally, the curated color assortment caters to all styles–from classic tan and blue to a vibrant coral that adds a unique pop of color not found elsewhere.

Kassatex: How do the bath towels and bath mats complement Pepper Home’s existing product line?
KB: The Kassatex x Pepper Home towels and bath mats provide the perfect finishing touch to a bathroom or powder room adorned with our wallpaper, shower curtains, or fabric. We tested multiple thread options (multiple times!) to make sure we selected the right colorways that complement our collection, allowing customers to create a harmonious and stylish living space from the bedroom to the bathroom.
Kassatex: How does the bath collection reflect Pepper Home’s design aesthetic?
KB: We like to think of our aesthetic as timeless with a twist. The delicate floral embroidery featured in our bath collection is just that. It’s the perfect pop of pattern that seamlessly mixes and matches with every style.
Kassatex: Where do you find inspiration for Pepper Home’s signature prints and designs?
KB: When we’re working with artists on new patterns, we love to reference textiles and paintings dating back to the 1700s and 1800s, infusing them with our contemporary perspective and aesthetic.
Kassatex: How do current trends influence your product development process?
KB: At Pepper, we try to steer clear of design trends. Instead, our primary focus lies in sustainability and crafting designs that stay in homes, not warehouses or landfills.
Kassatex: Can you share how customer feedback impacts your product designs and offerings?
KB: Understanding the needs and desires of our customers is at the heart of our mission. We value every comment, suggestion, and insight shared by our customers. In fact, some of our brand collaborations have originated from direct customer outreach, where they expressed interest in a product not currently within our assortment. We also have a few products in development that stem from years of customer feedback. After all, Pepper was founded with the intention of serving those who have struggled to find certain products elsewhere.
Kassatex: Are there any specific artists or designers or styles who inspire your work?
KB: We’re constantly inspired by British designers like Kit Kemp for their bold use of color and pattern. We also love to reference textiles and paintings dating back to the 1700s and 1800s, infusing them with our contemporary perspective and aesthetic.
Kassatex: Can you tell us about any recent experiences or travels that have influenced your product designs?
KB: I traveled to France last summer and spent time in Paris and Provence. It’s hard not to be inspired by the vibrant colors of the French countryside and the chic Parisian cafes and stunning architecture. This trip definitely played a role in shaping the colorways of our Rooms In Bloom collection and provided inspiration for our cafe curtains.
Kassatex: Can you share any insights into future collaborations or product launches?
KB: We’ve had a busy launch schedule this year with the addition of cafe curtains, two new collections, and solid grasscloth wallpaper. Our sheers, which we launched with cafe curtains, have been so popular that we are introducing more colorways and styles this fall. We’re also working with a French artist we’ve long admired on a new collection full of whimsical patterns. Our Beatrice fabric has been so popular that we’re adding more embroidered options in exciting colorways early next year. More to come soon!
