At home with @honestlykate

What began as an opportunity to stretch her acting muscles, the @honestlykate brand was created by Katie Sands. Katie, a born and bred New Yorker and raised in Locust Valley, NY, is the fresh-faced millennial paving the way of positivity for her generation of women looking to elevate their own lifestyle with healthy choices, brand loyalty, and travel. You may have seen her on the likes of Fox News and NBC, or during fashion week with E! as she is one of the top influences with her honest point of view, and with her growing audience of over 205K followers on Instagram alone, everyone is loving how Katie is growing up in her favorite city.

We first shot Katie when she moved into her first apartment by herself from living with her life-long best friends and roommates. But after falling for her boyfriend, they decided to move in together and start the next chapter in their lives. Just in time to “wrap up” for a cozy fall season, we styled out her brand new apartment with a selection of tonal throw pillows and fluffy blankets. With our linen tabletop collection on hand for couch side snacking, even the most mundane meals will feel special lounging with the ones you love.

On a brisk morning in Manhattan, Katie and Brian, wrapped up in our plush terry robes and lush throw blankets, sat down with us to chat all things about their new roommate life, who is the cleanest, and their favorite new traditions as a couple. Katie and Brian, we apologize in advance if getting off your cozy couch this winter becomes a difficult task.

• Kassatex: Describe each other’s design style in three words:
• Katie: Oh wow. Masculine, Dark Woods, Eccentric.
• Brian: Millennial Instagram Ready.

• Kassatex: Who is the night owl and who is the early riser?
• Brian: Oh I’m definitely the night owl.
• Katie: Oh I’M definitely the night owl and the early riser.
• Brian: You go to bed at 9:30 PM.
• Katie: I’m a narcoleptic 🙂

• Kassatex: What is currently on your bedside?
• Katie: It’s probably creepy but its pictures of us because I haven’t printed out regular pictures of family and friends yet!
• Brian: My Kindle. Probably about it.

• Kassatex: What did you learn about each other initially that you didn’t know prior to moving in?
• Katie: Brian is SO particular. I thought he would let me go ahead and do the whole apartment but he likes to be involved in every aspect.
• Brian: Katie’s messy! She likes to think she cleans up after herself but it’s not the case.
• Katie: It’s organized chaos.
• Brian: It’s just chaos.

• Kassatex: How much closet space does Brian really get?
• Katie: Brian actually gets more closet space than me!
• Brian: I don’t get more but I definitely get 50% which is way more than I expected.

• Kassatex: Any night time rituals?
• Katie: Outlander binge watching.
• Brian: I make Katie tea which she never drinks because it’s usually too hot and then she falls asleep.
• Katie: And then I’m asleep….again!

• Kassatex: How did you meet?
• Brian:Through a mutual friend. My sister’s best friend.
• Katie: But really I stalked him on Hinge and then I found someone who knew him and she set us up.
• Brian: You manifested us.

• Kassatex: Who plays DJ the most?
• Katie: Brian. I only like Broadway songs.
• Brian: And Taylor Swift.

• Kassatex: Your go to Spotify?
• Brian: Reggae Jams

• Kassatex: Friday night usually includes:
• Katie: Brian cooking!
• Brian: And challah.
• Katie: And mostly your friends coming over.
• Brian: OUR friends!

• Kassatex: Best vacation together?
• Brian: Been on a lot of micro vacations.
• Katie: We’ve had 10 destination weddings this summer. Either Aspen or Mexico. Aspen because it was more adventurous.

• Kassatex: Canadian Love: Favorite part of dating a Canadian?
• Katie: Getting to go to Montreal! I’ve been over 3 times in the last month alone! On an eating tour!

• Kassatex: Poutine – bring it on or I like my arteries:
• Katie: Bring it on!
• Brian: I like my arteries. She loves poutine.
• Katie: We even got poutine in the airport because I needed it one more time before we left.

• Kassatex: Strong Island: Does Katie’s Long Island ever show?
• Brian: Only in her pride. You would never know in her accent or anything else, but when you talk about Long Island and anyone says anything negative, she pounces.
• Katie: Yea. It’s Strong Island. Everyone should know!
