Ever wonder how and when to launder the giant comforter you cozy up to every night? We asked Gwen Whiting, co-founder of The Laundress, for her tips and tricks on keeping your bed’s most comfortable layer fresh and clean.
How Often Should I Wash My Comforter?
Comforters should follow a washing rotation of one to three months, depending on the fabric and lifestyle. If your pets sleep with you or breakfast in bed is a common occasion, you’ll need to wash bedding more often.
How Do I Clean The Comforter in My Home Washer?
Machine wash separately on a normal cycle with warm water and your preferred detergent such as The Laundress Signature Detergent.
TIP! When laundering bedding it is important not to over stuff the washer. Doing so can damage both the machine and bedding.
What if My Comforter is Stained?
Pretreat your comforter’s most stubborn stains with Stain Solution—it’s formulated to target and break down tannin stains such as red wine, chocolate, coffee, and more. Apply it directly to the stain and work it into the fabric with your finger.
All About Drying the Comforter
Most damage occurs in the dryer versus the washing machine. Therefore we recommend line/air drying when possible. When using the dryer, dry bedding separately from everyday laundry. It is best to select the low heat low tumble cycle and to remove items before they are completely dry. Wool, silk, and items with delicate detailing like embroidery should never go in the dryer.
TIP! To freshen between washing, spritz with Fabric Fresh Classic.
