Kassatex: How did you start designing?
Asia Baker: My first job after college was working at Vogue Magazine. Vogue Living was still in print at the time and it was one of my favorite monthly reads. After Vogue I worked for Roman & Williams which was one of the most creative and inspiring places in design. My time there had a huge impact on me and the direction of my career.

Kassatex: Three designers who inspire you?
AB: Lorenzo Castillo, Isabel Lopez Quesada & Veere Grenney.

Kassatex: Favorite moment of the design process?
AB: I find conceptual stage so inspiring and exciting. You are starting with the foundation of a room and the possibilities are limitless.

Kassatex: Favorite room to design?
AB: I love a library.

Kassatex: Three classic paint colors you always use?
AB: We don’t have any go to colors- our color selections are so specific to each project location and the light quality of a room. We use a lot of the Affinity Colors from Benjamin Moore and of course we love Farrow & Ball.

Kassatex: What is currently on your bedside table?
AB: Shop drawings for my own house, a glass of water, a gua sha, a framed drawing by one of my girls and below is an ever mounting stack of books I hope to get to!

Kassatex: First thing you do in the morning?
AB: As much as I would love to say I meditate and take some time to myself, I’m usually wondering how it is already the morning and then I go wake my girls up for school.

Kassatex: Most exciting moment of your career thus far?
AB: Having my house featured in Architectural Digest in 2021 was an enormous highlight for me. I remember receiving an email from one of the editors when the story went live telling me that it was incredibly popular which was an incredible feeling.

Kassatex: How important is it to fully design a room, accent pieces to major elements, or do you allow a room to grow with evolving tastes and items?
AB: Some of the best rooms that I have been in have evolved over time and have a sense of nostalgia and travel. I feel my goal as a designer is to recreate that feeling in our designs. Of course, it takes a lot of layers and we work with a lot of vintage and antique pieces to establish a base. I encourage clients to pick up little things on their travels as well.

Kassatex: Forever favorite hotel?
AB: Villa Feltrinelli in Lake Garda, Italy

Kassatex: Finish this sentence: When in doubt in design…
AB: Trust your instincts. Go with classic over popular/trendy!
