Kassatex: How did you start designing?
Sara Story: I attended the Academy of Art University and studied interior architecture, then worked for Victoria Hagan before starting Sara Story Design.

Kassatex: Three designers who inspire you?
SS: India Mahdavi for her use of daring color, Eileen Gray on charting the way for female designers, and Pierre Yovanovitch on his restraint and use of materials.

Kassatex: Favorite moment of the design process?
SS: Scheming and finding the point of view of the project.

Kassatex: Favorite room to design?
Sara Story: Living rooms are probably my favorite as they can have so many uses and stories.

Kassatex: Three classic paint colors you always use:
SS: Farrow & Ball Wevet, Calamine and Hague Blue.

SS: Meditate then coffee.

SS: Functionality while being a peaceful and serene space.

SS: Calvin Tomkins’ The Lives Of Artists, my glasses and water.

Kassatex: Most exciting moment of your career thus far?
SS: Releasing my book, The Art Of Home, with Rizzoli Fall 2023 and achieving AD 100.

Kassatex: How important is it to fully design a room- accent pieces to major elements- or do you allow a room to grow with evolving tastes and items?
Sara Story: A room always evolves— these are the best spaces.
